In 2002, AMI and OSHA signed an agreement to expand cooperation and seek further work place safety enhancements. The AMI-OSHA Alliance, renewed in 2004 and 2006, promotes safe and healthful working conditions for meat and poultry industry employees and provides outreach, communication, training and education to employees throughout the industry.
Through the Alliance, AMI and OSHA also provide ergonomics training - essential to combating many work place injuries - through mentoring and information sharing among meat and poultry industry companies and translate information into Spanish and other languages to assure our entire work force benefits from these industry advances.
The agreement between industry and government also encourages further cooperation among industry competitors through existing OSHA cooperative programs such as compliance assistance, the Voluntary Protection Program, consultation and Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), as well as mentoring among AMI members.
